In Autumn 2010 Tsoknyi Gechak Ling, a Tibetan Buddhist Nunnery in Chobhar Kathmandu, was founded by Tsoknyi Rinpoche to maintain the precious Tsoknyi Lineage as practiced in Gechak Nunnery in Nangchen Tibet. As it was Tsoknyi Rinpoche’s wish to offer TGL’s young nuns a full modern education as well as traditional Buddhist training in April 2013 Tsoknyi Gechak School was founded.
TGS is a Kindergarten, Primary and Lower Secondary School for the school-aged nuns at Tsoknyi Gechak Ling. Our aim is to incorporate modern teaching methods while keeping Buddhist ethics at the core. We follow the Nepali Government Curriculum and enrich it with field trips, art, mindfulness and other creative activities and active learning techniques to ensure a high quality educational experience for our pupils. In grade 8 our students prepare for Nepal’s first board certified exam the ‘Basic Level Examination’ (BLE) and then may continue their studies at TGL’s Buddhist Philosophical Collage or ‘Shedra’.
For 2 years UNESCO award winning Rato Bangala Foundation delivered a tailor made teacher training program to our teaching staff and now we deliver our own in-house training program to all new staff. We have integrated many Montessori teaching techniques and materials in our Kindergarten. We continue to develop grow and learn from each other and from local and international mentors and friends.
You can follow our adventures, activities, growth and development here and on our face book page.
